DC-846 SPECTRUM
The Coron DC-846 Spectrum is a Japanese multi-filter equalizer pedal from the early 1980s that combines resonant filtering with active EQ tone shaping. Designed as part of the Coron Sound Creator line, it blends musical equalization with highly expressive, formant-style filtering. The RESO, B.P.F., and H.P.F. controls form a linked resonant filter network: B.P.F. sets the center frequency of the band-pass filter, H.P.F. adjusts the cutoff threshold, and RESO determines feedback intensity, producing everything from mild presence boosts to sharp, vocal-like resonance. When pushed, the filter produces vowel sweeps and harmonic peaks that react dynamically to playing and input gain. The LOW, MIDDLE, and HIGH knobs act as a three-band active EQ for post-filter tone balancing, while the LEVEL control governs output volume. The DC-846 responds especially well to distorted or overdriven sources, delivering expressive "wah"-style or synth-like tones when manipulated. The pedal uses a lightweight molded plastic housing typical of the series and was also released under the Asama, Holmes, and Sanox names with identical circuitry.
